EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing is an evidence-based therapy used to help people overcome difficult experiences. EMDR utilizes eye movement, bilateral sound, or tactile stimulation to reprocess and reduce the negative effects of a traumatic event. This therapy can help you reduce anxiety, manage stress, and gain a better understanding of your emotions. EMDR is used to treat PTSD, anxiety, stress, panic attacks and emotional distress among other conditions.

EMDR therapy is recognized as a highly effective treatment for trauma and is endorsed by many international organizations, among them the following:
-
American Psychological Association (APA)
-
American Psychiatric Association
-
World Health Organization (WHO)
-
International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS)
-
U.S. Departments of Defense (USDOD) & Veterans Affairs (USVA)
-
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK
EMDR can effectively treat
-
Attachment trauma – from neglect, abuse or poor parenting suffered in childhood
-
Grief and loss
-
Chronic pain
-
Traumatic experiences – such as witnessing a violent crime or death, experiencing a car accident or an event like an earthquake or fire
-
The breakup of a significant relationship
-
A humiliating or disturbing experience

Navigating Life's Changes
Life's changes can be complicated, uncertain and confusing. The changes I'm talking about include:
-
finishing an education
-
starting a career
-
getting married
-
becoming a parent
-
navigating a career change
-
caring for a loved one experiencing a handicap, illness, or dementia
-
facing your own diagnosis
-
retirement
All these changes involve redefining yourself and your expectations of life. Navigating them with someone with life experience and training can help make the challenges satisfying and rewarding. I would be happy to guide you into the new chapters that await you.

Pre-Marriage Counselling
Choosing a life partner is a big deal. Getting to know each other is often considered by people dating, to be the one thing they can do on their own. The "honeymoon" period can however, conceal many character traits and behaviour patterns that can be difficult to deal with later. I use Gottman Couples Theory and the Gottman's Connect Assessment tool to reassure you of where you are compatible and to help you anticipate where you may have difficulty. This process often helps you as a couple recognize your challenging areas and approach difficult conversations. Then you will be equipped with the tools you need to have a relationship that lasts. You will come away more compassionate towards yourself and your partner and more confident that your big day will be followed by a happy life.
